goldenmoon > October 14 - Its been a crazy couple of weeks, so I have not had an opportunity to upload any shots lately, but I have been taking some! This image from last weekend's Pumpkin Festival in Manteca, CA shows a decent cross section of the crowds.

As you can see, the Great Dane was shedding :-))
goldenmoon > September 30 - Yosemite Bears!!! - My son and I went to Yosemite today in hunt of the elusive bears that we have heard about for years. Once, a few years ago, we saw a bear from a long distance. Well, today our wish was answered!

Within an hour of parking in the valley (Curry Village), we had our encounter. We spotted and then followed these two for about 45 minutes as they ate, browsed, and played. After they had their fill of grubs, they went to a thicket and laid down.

Aaron and I went to the village and had lunch and then returned to the same area where we had left the the two earlier. We were lucky enough to find them again as they browsed and crossed a river.

Sun and shade were harsh and the distance was significant (for safety). So of the 175 shots I took, Only a handful were acceptable, and of those, only a few were approaching good. I did learn one thing...ALWAYS USE A TRIPOD. All of my hand held shots failed to make the grade.

goldenmoon > September 24 - In your Eyes -

Kristie and I went out for a Sunday afternoon drive and an attempt to take some pictures...after about 45 minutes, I had not stopped once, so Kristie came up with a good idea to make sure we actually shot SOMETHING! She had me set the trip meter and we agreed to stop every 5 miles, no matter where we were, and shoot what ever was there. We actually got a few good shots...this was my favorite.
goldenmoon > September 19 - STEP OUT TO FIGHT DIABETES - As many of you know, my son has type 1 diabetes. Many of you also know that we are going to be participating in this year's Diabetes walk, sponsored by the American Diabetes Assosiation. What many of you do not know is this...

When we formed our walk team, I registered under the name, "GoldenMoon Photography". The ADA Walk Director for our area, looked at the teams she had registered and gave me a call saying that she needed a someone to be the "official event photographer"...I was honored, even after she said the next alternative was her 15 year old daughter haha.

When the Walk director reviewed this site, she saw my previous diabetes image and asked if she could use it....we (Kristie and I) suggested I create a new one. She is looking for a shot that can be used for fund raising...this will be displayed at events for fundraising and educational purposes. Please review the shot and let me know your thoughts.

If you are motivated to donate, please go to the link below.

Thank you!

goldenmoon > September 15 - SLEEP STUDY - Apparently sleep apnia has decided to land in my house...but to be sure, my doctor thought it would be best to torture me for a night. This experience started last night at 9pm when I arrived at the sleep study clinic. There was a nice, but very pregnant technician who walked me through the process and put more wires on me than my PC has in it. When she attached sensors to my legs, she had to sit on the floor, she could not get up without help...I was worried she was going to go into labor while I was strapped to the bed or something...

She hooked three sensors to my scalp, into my hair, with a waxy adhesive that was easily removed with only three repeates of shampoo...Clearly several sensors on my face...

The most annoying, I think, was the nasal sensor, two wire thingies poking into my nostrils, tickling the sensitive hairs...makes it hard to fall to sleep...

Oh, yeah, the sensors on my chest were fun! I have used soap, rubbing alchohol, and am considering sand paper...as of now I still have circular marks and a a tacky adhesive that pulls my hair...fun fun!

Bottom line, it was not all that bad...I did it on a Friday night so I could sleep the folowing day, which I did...the technician is still pregnant and did not go into labor, thank God! Looks like I will need to get a CPAP machine (blows air into my mouth and nose while I sleep) to keep me breathing at night....is this preventable, yes! I need to lose weight...

Take care of yourselves!!
goldenmoon > September 6 - "Lord, bless this food I am about to eat..."
goldenmoon > September 3 - REALLY BAD HAIR DAY - Ok, I need some serious help with a good caption for this ugly bird....it is a Rhea, and per Wikipedia, "Rhea are farmed in North America and Europe (as are the Emu and the Ostrich). While the main produce are meat and eggs, rhea oil is also used for cosmetics and soaps." All I know is that this is one of the ugliest animals I have encountered. Enjoy!
goldenmoon > August 26 - "INSECT" HOTEL CALIFORNIA - As I mentioned yesterday, Kristie's parents surprised us with a visit this weekend. We took them to the UC Berkeley botanical gardens and got this shot in the insect-eating-plant house. It was very humid in there, quite tropical...I loved these pods that were hanging all over the place...as you can imagine, there was not much flying around...would have been cool to see one fly in though! Enjoy!
goldenmoon > August 25 - UC BERKELEY BOTANICAL GARDEN - Kristie's parents surprised us with a visit this weekend...they like to drive 600 miles from another state just to see if we are home...haha...oh to be retired! We decided to take them to Berkeley today and walk them through the botanical gardens. Not much was in bloom, but I caught this shot and liked the clouds as a contrast with the flower...enjoy!
