goldenmoon > December 22 - CHRISTMAS LIGHTS!!! We moved to the community of Manteca, California (Yes, it means lard), in 2000. Each of the last few years, we have gone to visit this house and smile...the following are the facts: -180 thousand lights...they start stringing lights in October to be ready for Thanksgiving -Tallest "tree" is 45 feet (higher before the city enforced the restriction...there was a star that was about 60' up) - note the tiny tree toppers? those are 6' trees that most people put in their yards -About $2000 per month in electricity -589 Mercedes St, Manteca, CA -Santa every Saturday evening from Thanksgiving to Christmas...every day during the last week, up to Christmas Eve -Free Coffee, Hot Chocolate, cookies, and candy canes every night Santa is there The funniest part? After 27 years of marriage, the owner, Brock, never put lights up...his wife nagged him every year...a few years ago, he put on one strand to surprise her....it grew from there. Yes, Nagging caused this...he loves it...she "says" its not worth the $2k per month in electricity, but loves seeing all the smiling faces.
goldenmoon > December 16 - this image was a surprise for me, it is a crop of a larger shot from our trip to Yosemite last weekend. The blue in this image was really neat!
goldenmoon > December 11 - This image of the first snow on these twigs and pine needles caught my eye....I love the way the snow accumulated...can you tell I grew up in an area with no snow?
goldenmoon > December 10 - While exploring around in Yosemite Valley, this guy decided to approach and see what we had to offer....nothing! He kept a reasonable distance as he stood in the nearly frozen meadow. Earlier this year, a controlled burn took this grassy area down to nothing...the last time we were through here, the ground was still smoldering...the fresh shoots of grass had started to sprout before the frost took over last week. Across the meadow, the grass is higher and still teaming with rodents. We watched another coyote hunt, catch, and gobble down a field mouse about an hour after this shot was taken...unfortunately, I did not get a usable shot of the action...next time :))
goldenmoon > December 9 (thanks Hillary!) - Winter in Yosemite! Went to Yosemite this morning to shoot some of the first snow of the season...as I was focusing on a rather boring meadow of snow, my son was examining detail in the bark of a mossy tree. He called me over and suggested I shoot this image...I did and he was right, great job Aaron!
goldenmoon > December 3 - Homeless in Berkeley - Went to Berkeley today, this image taken just off of Sprowel Plaza. This homeless woman appeared to be sitting and contemplating her next step...her shopping cart, containing all of her worldly possessions, was about 40 feet away, parked next to a bicycle rack.
goldenmoon > November 24 - Multnomah Falls in Oregon - We went to visit Family in Oregon for the Holiday and made a little side run to see some falls. Thoughts or comments?
goldenmoon > November 12 - tried to follow the rule of thirds here and also use the angle from bottom right to top left...thoughts on the comp and color? I know the lighting is a little all over the place.
goldenmoon > November 11 - It has been a while since I last posted...today I was inspired to go shoot a vinyard not far from my home. I liked several of the shots this late season presented me with, but this is the favorite. Enjoy!
